Some Notes Worth Keeping

It was announced today that the Malaysia Airlines flight 370 ended its journey in a remote area of the Indian Ocean, nowhere near a potential landing spot. While we all suspected and braced for a tragic end, the definitive update brings a final reality to the slightest hope. I can’t help but feel deeply saddened for of those who were onboard and their families left behind.

It is natural and human to reflect upon our own lives after a tragedy like this. I travel a great deal for work and am actually writing this from an airplane. I left my family to go to the airport today like it was another business trip that I would soon return from. My wife, son and daughter carrying on about their day, knowing that I would be home for dinner later this week. It set in as I heard the news about Malaysia Airlines flight 370 that many of the families of people on the plane had exactly that – loved ones they expected to return home and not thinking about good-byes. Thousands of people’s lives changed dramatically, and forever. I cannot imagine the heartbreak and tremendous sadness that these families and their loved ones will endure.

It seems to always take a jarring experience in our lives or the lives around us to make changes. I am no exception. It reminds me of the fragility of life and how limited our time is to make an impact – in our lives, with our families, on the world. I hope this remembrance of sadness over the lives cut short will propel me to take advantage even more of every moment I have. I hope it reminds you to do the same.

One final note. I came upon this short youtube video last night with my daughter.  We spent 1 minute -- 65 seconds actually of our 84,600 watching it.  I am glad we had the chance to do it...
