Digital Company Brings Silicon Valley to Dayton
"Digital Company Brings Silicon Valley to Dayton". This was the subject line of the original pitch our PR firm gave to the Dayton Daily News that got them interested in printing an article about Crown. How then does the title become "Growing IT firm may decide to move out west"???
It is really unbelievable to me how a town as great as Dayton can have such an "unwarranted" negative self perception about itself (the DDN failed to include "unwarranted" in their article). Let me tell you how I explain Dayton to my friends outside of the community, and prospective recruits:
"Dayton is a great place to live, work and have a family. You are in the heart of America, literally. Within 90 minutes, I can be in 90% of the big cities in America -- drive or fly. It is surrounded by many of the best institutions in the country -- University of Dayton, Wright State, University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, Miami University, Indiana University, Purdue University, University of Michigan, and of course -- The Ohio State University. Family? My family calls Dayton "Home" because there is no better place to raise a family. It is a safe place with some of the best K-12 education systems in the country and enables young professionals to build wealth rather than spend it on overpriced houses and cost of living. A bad traffic day is being delayed by maybe 10 or 15 minutes - worst case. Want the big city (Chicago and NYC) -- then spend a few weekends there. You will spend more time there than the people who live in those cities (as most of them live in an overpriced, crowded suburb and never get to the big city events anyways). And -- you will spend far less doing it.
Now for the headline of the article... I guess when I tell the Dayton Daily News that Crown is staying in Dayton, but we don't want to disclose our exact plans because they aren't firm yet -- that means we are "moving out west". Was "Digital Company Brings Silicon Valley to Dayton" too much on the positive side to print... Ugh.
